The SAT®

THE SAT is a standardized test which assesses Mathematical, Reading and Writing skills of students desiring to do their undergraduate studies abroad. The test aims at aiding Undergraduate Schools to measure the potential of the aspiring applicants for higher studies. Universities in the US, while inviting applications from aspiring students, ask for SAT® scores.
THE NEW SAT format (applicable since May 2016)

The test is PBT (paper based test). Maximum score is 1600. The SAT® I score one of the major factors taken into consideration in the entire long process of an applicant or aspirant gaining admission into the preferred graduate school. The SAT® is divided into following sections – Mathematics, Reading test and Writing and Language test.

What is the scoring scale for the SAT®?
  • Mathematics section scored between 200-800.
  • Critical Reading section is scored on a scale of 200-800.
  • Essay is scored independently on a scale of 2-8.
  • The full SAT® test score ranges between 400-1600.

What is the cost of SAT exam?

The cost of registration for THE New SAT® is $94 (plus $12 with essay).

How many times in a year is THE SAT® exam held?

Both SAT® I and SAT® II are held 6 times a year in India in May, June, October, November, December and January. SAT® I and SAT® II cannot be taken up on the same day.

Does admission to universities depend only on SAT® scores?

No. It’s one of the several criteria that the admission council looks at but a good SAT® score does improve one’s chances of gaining admission and securing financial aid.

SAT can be taken any number of times. (It is recommended not to appear for SAT® too many times as it may affect the applicant’s prospects and candidature).
